Audrey (Maas) Finney of Lansing, Illinois entered into eternal rest Sunday November 29, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1928 to Douglas and Irene (McGuire) Maas.
Following graduation from Hirsch High School in Chicago, Audrey obtained her B. A. Degree from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. While there she was active in the Sigma Kappa Sorority and was the editor of the college newspaper.
She married Laurence William (Bill) Finney on June 20, 1950.
Audrey was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Lansing, Illinois. Audreyâs great love of music was reflected in her many years of service with the church choir. She had a beautiful soprano voice and her involvement with the choir brought her much joy.
Audrey was also involved in the Lansing Jr. Womenâs club. Her love of music and the performing arts was reflected in the many play productions the club presented for the children of the community.
Perhaps Audreyâs greatest contribution to the Lansing community was her many years of teaching at Memorial Jr. High School. During her tenure at Memorial she dedicated herself to raising the bar of education for her students. She was especially proud of introducing her students each year to Charles Dickens âA Christmas Carolâ and her work with the school newspaper âThe Flash.â Following retirement Audrey was very involved with the Illinois Retired Teacher Association.
She is survived by (2) sons, Rev. Douglas S. Finney (Margaret) of French Lick IN, Scott Laurence Finney (Jean) of Sleepy Hollow IL.

Great grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey, Cooper
Memorial service
A celebration of Audreyâs life will be conducted Tuesday December 29, 2015 at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church in Lansing IL. Rev. Paul Nolden and Rev. Douglas S. Finney will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 1pm prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the general fund of the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, Illinois,18420 Burnham Avenue in Lansing, IL 60438.
