James W. "Jim" Shipman

James W. “Jim” Shipman, 77, of Dubois, Indiana entered into eternal rest on February 5th, 2023 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana on May 21st, 1945 to James “Bud” Shipman and Emma Jane (Jones) McFarland. He was raised by his beloved grandparents Earl and Grace (Jordan) Shipman.

Jim married Glenda F. Hinkle on October 23rd, 1971 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; Step-Father – Robert McFarland; and (1) Sister – Linda Smith.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War and retired from Crane NSWC after over 30 years.

He was a 50 plus year member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76, where he was currently serving as Commander and had previously held the position of Commander for seven terms.  Jim was also a member of the Legion Riders, the Forty and Eight and the VFW.

Jim was an avid Harley Davidson rider, enjoyed fishing, serving his community (especially with food), and shuffleboard, but was most proud of being a dad and “Pops” to his seven grandchildren.

He is survived by:

Wife – Glenda Shipman of Dubois, Indiana 

(2) Daughters – Megan Betz (Josh) of Indianapolis, Indiana
                          Miranda Krieg (Adam) of Tell City, Indiana
                                    
(4) Brothers – Tim Conrad (Lola) of French Lick, Indiana
               Mike Conrad (Ruth) of French Lick, Indiana
               Jerry Wayne Shipman of Indianapolis, Indiana
               Doug Shipman of French Lick, Indiana

(5) Sisters – Patty Denny of Muncie, Indiana
            Connie Burns (Terry) of Muncie, Indiana
            Brenda King (Dave) of Muncie, Indiana
            Barbara Shipman of Indianapolis, Indiana
            Jamie Shipman of West Baden, Indiana

In-laws – Dennis “Dink” Smith of Muncie, Indiana
               George Hinkle (Cindy) of Columbus, Ohio
               Barb Young (Bill) of Flower Mound, Texas

(7) Grandchildren – Cohen, Macy and Brenna Betz; Callista, Emmett, Lenora and August Krieg.

Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

FUNERAL CEREMONY
A Funeral Ceremony will be held on Friday, February 10th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home with burial to follow in Crystal Cemetery.

VISITATION 
Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday, February 9th, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home and on Friday, February 10th, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to French Lick American Legion Post 76,
8595 W. Main Street, French Lick, IN 47432.
