Martha Ann Abels, 85, of Prospect, Indiana entered into eternal rest on August 29th, 2018 at Springs Valley Meadows.
She was born in Northwest Township on June 12th, 1933 to Paul B and Myrtle A “Day” Prosser. As a child of The Great Depression, she grew up with few material comforts, but with love of family and country neighbors. Although she traveled with her husband’s military tour of duty and lived in Florida for a decade, she never truly left the Valley and its small town warmth.
Martha married Eugene Abels on October 19th, 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, (2) sisters – Nancy Jo Prosser, Carolyn Sue Prosser and (1) brother – Paul B Prosser Jr.
Martha was a member of Springs Valley Wesleyan Church and retired from Pluto Corporation. Martha seemed to have been born with a sense of compassion she extended to everyone she knew, even pets. She cared deeply for her two sisters who were born with serious health problems. Despite the fact they both passed away during Martha’s own childhood, she kept mementos of them, such as coloring book pages, for decades. When her only brother fell seriously ill during World War II, she was at his side through a year of blindness and helped him learn to walk again. Martha extended her kindness to everyone she met over her 85 years. To many this might seem like exaggerated praise, but Martha lived this way. She regularly visited nursing home residents up to the time she entered the nursing home herself. Martha’s rustic charm made her many friends throughout her lifetime, almost as many as her cooking skills. Fun loving and humble is probably how Martha would want us to remember her.
Martha is survived by:

(4) Nieces and Nephews Nancy Hinsch (Hank) Vallonia, Indiana
