Richard Edward Bigham

July 23, 1937 — April 15, 2025

Greencastle

Richard Edward Bigham, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 15th, 2025. He was born on July 23rd, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana into a large and loving family.

Richard’s life was guided by faith, love, and a deep commitment to family. He will be remembered for his stories, his generosity, his unwavering work ethic, and the deep roots he planted – both in the earth and in the hearts of those who knew him.

He met the love of his life, Anna, through a humorous twist of fate. While dating another woman named Ann who lived in the same apartment complex, a case of mistaken identity brought Richard to the wrong Ann’s door. Richard and Anna would go on to share 65 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership.

A proud veteran, Richard spoke often of his time in the military. He recalled with pride the art of shining his boots to a mirror finish and the many hours of KP duty.

Richard dedicated 42 years of his life to Ford Motor Company. This career allowed him to support and provide opportunities for his daughters, including helping them pursue their education and dreams.

He had a deep love for gardening, and was especially known for growing the best tomatoes around. True to his giving nature, Richard often shared the bounty of his garden with others – including donations to local nursing homes.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Valley and Beulah Bigham; his parents-in-law, Robert and Roma Underhill; siblings – Kenneth Bigham, Jack Bigham, Douglas Bigham, and Brenda Totman.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years -Anna Lois (Underhill) Bigham

His three daughters – Kimberly Ann Sokolow (Greg), Diana Bigham, and Melissa Dollins (Ryan)

His beloved granddaughters – Sierra Cole (Carlos) and Izabella Dollins

His great-granddaughter – Adeline Mae Martinez

Brothers – Donald Bigham (Julie) and Stephen Bigham
