Wilma S. Thurston, 97 years young, of French Lick, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on July 11th, 2017 at IU Health Paoli Campus in Paoli, Indiana.
She was born in Orange County, Indiana on November 8th, 1919 to Noble Grant and Mary Etta (Barnett) Lashbrook.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and (1) Brother â Winston Lashbrooks.
She graduated from French Lick High School in French Lick, Indiana. She then attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana to become a teacher.
Wilma taught in the French Lick area for many years including at a one room schoolhouse in the Cane Creek area, the French Lick School and lastly, Springs Valley School Corporation. She loved children and it showed in how she worked with them, helping them to become the best they were able to be all the while making certain they were also happy.
She was a devote member of the Springs Valley United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women at Springs Valley, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Indiana Retired Teachersâ Association.
Wilma deeply loved her family and cherished every moment she had with them, especially her grandson and great-granddaughters.
She is survived by:
(1) Daughter Vicky Flick French Lick, Indiana
(1) Grandson Christopher Jan Clay (Terri) Indianapolis, Indiana
(3) Great-Granddaughters Emily, Sarah and Megan Clay Midlothian, Texas
Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, July 29th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Moores Ridge Cemetery in French Lick, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Wilma to the Springs Valley Education Foundation, c/o Orange County Community Foundation, Inc., 1075 North Sandy Hook Road, Ste 2, Paoli, Indiana 47454.
